Junior Humphries has lived in Labrador City since 1973, and has proudly served as the Deputy Mayor of Labrador City from 2012-2017. He has been a volunteer with the Labrador West Minor Hockey Association for 44 years, and was one of the organizers of Female Hockey Program for five years. Junior is presently serving his 13th year as president of Minor Hockey. This past year he was instrumental in bringing Special Olympics to Labrador West, and is pleased that this new program is going full speed ahead with 20 athletes registered and many volunteers helping out.
The past 14 years he has canvassed door to door for the Heart and Stoke Foundation, and is also the zone captain. Junior is also a member of session for Carol United Church, and a member of the Labrador City Lions Club for 34 years, serving as president for 2 terms and treasurer for the last 9 years.
Junior has received many awards from Hockey Canada and Hockey NL for his service and contribution to Minor Hockey in Labrador West. He has also received various awards for his outstanding contributions and humanitarian services to the community such as: Town of Labrador City Builders Award; Certificate of Merit from the Government of Canada; and The International Foundation Melvin Jones Fellow Award (the highest award in the Lions Club).
