Community Update – June 30, 2026 (Evening)
The past two days have been challenging for many residents, and we want to thank everyone for their cooperation, patience, and support as emergency crews continue to respond to the wildfire situation.
Since the wildfire threat emerged, significant work has been undertaken by Forestry, emergency responders, and municipal staff to protect our community.
Over the past 48 hours:
- An evacuation order was issued for areas identified as being at risk.
- Forestry crews, water bombers, helicopters, and ground personnel have worked continuously to suppress the fire and reduce its spread.
- The Labrador City Fire Department has been actively supporting response efforts and monitoring affected areas.
- The Town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated and remains operational, coordinating with municipal/provincial officials, emergency responders, community partners, and other stakeholders.

Today’s reports indicate progress has been made; however, the fire remains active and the evacuation order remains in effect.
Forestry officials will continue assessing conditions this evening. Any decisions regarding re-entry into evacuated areas will be based on public safety and the advice of fire management officials.
We know many residents are anxious to return home and are looking for certainty. Please know that everyone involved is working diligently to protect our community and provide information as it becomes available.
We remain hopeful that forecasted rain will help improve conditions, but until further assessments are completed, we ask residents to continue following evacuation instructions and monitoring official Town communication channels for updates.
