Wildfire Update – Evening Update July 6
The Town has been made aware of inaccurate information circulating on social media suggesting residents should consider leaving the Duley Lake area. At this time, there has been no change to the current Evacuation Alert or Evacuation Order areas. Residents are encouraged to rely on official updates from the Town of Labrador City and Forestry officials for current information.
Forestry provided an update this evening advising that crews made excellent progress throughout the day. Ground crews continued suppression efforts with support from helicopter bucketing operations, focusing on identifying and extinguishing hotspots.
While significant progress was made today, some hotspots remain active. As a result, residents may notice increased aircraft activity this evening as four water bombers continue proactive suppression work to keep affected areas cool overnight ahead of another warm day tomorrow.
Forestry advised that this evening work is intended to reduce the potential for increased fire activity and help ensure conditions remain as safe as possible for firefighting crews returning to the field tomorrow.
The Town will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as required. Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and support.
