Wildfire Update – July 3, 2026 (Morning)
Forestry crews, the Incident Management Team, Labrador City Fire Department personnel, and other response partners continue suppression, monitoring, and assessment activities in the Walsh River area.
Work remains focused on strengthening containment lines and addressing hotspots along the fire perimeter, particularly in areas closest to the community. Ground crews and helicopter operations continue to make progress, and additional firefighting resources are being mobilized to support ongoing suppression efforts.
Forestry officials have advised that current weather conditions continue to support firefighting operations. However, warmer and drier weather is forecast early next week, and crews are using the current conditions to complete as much suppression and containment work as possible in advance of that change.
The evacuation order remains in effect for the Walsh River Cabin Area. The previously announced Evacuation Alert remains in place for Duley Lake, Throne Lake, and the Tamarack Golf Course Road Area.
Air quality conditions in Labrador West remain favourable, and response partners continue to monitor conditions closely.
The Town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remains active and continues to work closely with Forestry, Fire Services, Provincial officials, RNC, and community partners.
We are pleased to report that no issues have been identified following yesterday’s phased re-entry, and we thank residents for their continued patience, cooperation, and support as response efforts continue.
