Wildfire Update – July 1, 2026 (Afternoon)
Responders continue to report on conditions in the Walsh River area following the overnight rainfall.
Throughout the day, Forestry crews, the Incident Management Team, Labrador City Fire Department personnel, and other response partners have continued assessing conditions, monitoring fire activity, and carrying out suppression and structure protection activities.
The evacuation order remains in effect for:
- Walsh River Cabin Area
- Duley Lake
- Throne Lake
- Tamarack Golf Course Road Area
We understand residents are eager for information regarding re-entry into evacuated areas. Forestry officials will continue assessing conditions tomorrow, including a review of the current evacuation order. Any decisions regarding evacuation areas will be based on public safety and communicated as soon as they become available.
The Town’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) remains active and continues to work closely with Forestry, emergency responders, provincial officials, and community partners.
Response efforts remain focused on ensuring all affected areas can be thoroughly assessed before any decisions are made.
We thank residents for their continued patience, cooperation, and support.
