TOWN SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON WILDFIRE RESILIENCY

Labrador City, NL – The Town of Labrador City is taking an important step toward strengthening community preparedness and reducing wildfire risk through the development of a Community Wildfire Resiliency Plan.
As part of this process, residents are invited to participate in a public survey and attend upcoming engagement sessions that will help inform a community wildfire risk assessment currently being conducted by a consulting team. The assessment is fully funded by the Provincial Government and will provide valuable information to support future wildfire mitigation, preparedness, and resiliency initiatives in the community.
Survey results will help local leaders better understand residents’ perspectives, concerns, and priorities related to wildfire risk. The information collected will help guide future Wildfire Resiliency and FireSmart planning, education, and action within the community.
The survey will be open from September 8 to September 25, 2026.
Residents are also encouraged to attend one of two public engagement sessions:

The engagement sessions represent an important milestone in the wildfire risk assessment process. Following an initial site review, meetings with community leaders and stakeholders, and the completion of the public survey, the consulting team will share preliminary observations and gather additional input directly from residents.
Public engagement is a key component of the assessment and will help ensure that final recommendations reflect both technical findings and the lived experiences of community members. Feedback gathered during the sessions will contribute to the final wildfire risk assessment and help inform future planning initiatives aimed at reducing wildfire risk, enhancing public safety, and supporting future funding opportunities for wildfire resiliency projects.

The Town encourages all residents to participate in the survey and attend the engagement sessions to learn more about wildfire risks, share their perspectives, and help shape the future of wildfire resiliency planning in Labrador City.
