Evacuation Order Lifted for Walsh River Cabin Area

Following a recommendation from Forestry officials, the Evacuation Order for the Walsh River Cabin Area has been lifted.
Residents and cabin owners may now return to their properties.
Please note that the Walsh River Cabin Area will remain under Evacuation Alert Status until further notice.
The Evacuation Alert also remains in effect for:
- Duley Lake
- Throne Lake
- Tamarack Golf Course Road Area

Why the Alert Remains in Place
Forestry officials have advised that wildfire suppression efforts continue and that the fire has now been classified as Being Held.
This means crews have successfully established containment around the fire perimeter and are continuing work to identify and extinguish remaining hotspots within the fire area. While significant progress has been made, suppression efforts remain ongoing and the wildfire is not yet considered Under Control.
As a result, all affected areas will remain under Evacuation Alert until Forestry determines that conditions have improved sufficiently to remove the Alert status.
What Residents Should Expect
- Forestry crews, helicopters, and other response resources may continue operating in the area.
- Residents may continue to see smoke from hotspots within the fire perimeter.
- Firefighting equipment, hoses, pumps, sprinklers, and other suppression infrastructure may remain in place. We kindly ask residents to be mindful of this emergency equipment and avoid disturbing it. If anyone has concerns regarding the placement of firefighting equipment, please contact the Labrador City Fire Department.
What Being on Evacuation Alert Means
An Evacuation Alert means there is currently no requirement to leave, however residents should remain prepared should conditions change.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Keep vehicles fueled and ready to leave if required.

Be prepared for at least 72 hours, with a basic emergency kit, including items such as food, water, batteries, a portable radio, important documents and prescription medications.
- Continue monitoring official Town of Labrador City and Forestry communications for updates.
- Be prepared to leave on short notice should an Evacuation Order become necessary.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Forestry officials, air crews, firefighters, emergency responders, volunteers, municipal staff, industry partners, and all those who have supported wildfire suppression and structure protection efforts throughout this incident.
The Town will continue to work closely with Forestry and response partners and will provide updates as conditions change.
