The Town of Labrador City and the Town of Wabush have jointly proclaimed October 4-10, 2026, as Mental Illness Awareness Week, recognizing the importance of increasing understanding, reducing stigma, and supporting mental wellness throughout Labrador West.<\/p>\n

Mental Illness Awareness Week serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health challenges and the impact they can have on individuals, families, friends, coworkers, and communities. Mental illness affects people of all ages and backgrounds, yet stigma and misunderstanding often remain barriers to seeking help and accessing support.<\/p>\n

By bringing attention to mental health and mental illness, communities can help create environments where people feel safe to talk openly about their experiences, seek assistance when needed, and support one another without judgment. Increased awareness also helps promote early intervention, education, and access to resources that can improve overall well-being.<\/p>\n

Through this proclamation, both municipalities recognize the importance of continued education, awareness, and community support in promoting positive mental health and reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness.<\/p>\n

Residents are encouraged to take time during Mental Illness Awareness Week to learn more about mental health, check in on family members, friends, neighbours, and coworkers, and help foster a community where everyone feels supported, respected, and valued.<\/p>\n
